Rules & Regulations

Out of all teams that meet the criteria, 80 teams will be selected to compete for the title of World Champion BBQ on May 30th, 2021. The teams will be notified if they have been selected or not by March 31st 2020.  

The grilling will take place on different types of barbecue, which will be announced by March 31st, 2020. The types of meat and fish that will be used will also be announced by then. The organization provides all ingredients.  

6 culinary dishes will be judged and sanctioned according to the regulations of the WBQA. The dishes will be served on neutral plates and will include a side dish. The side dishes can be prepared using the supplied ingredients in the foodbox. The foodbox will be displayed to the participating teams before the competition. 

The official and specific rules and regulations for the competition will be announced on March 31st.


The World Championships BBQ doesn’t only involve the competition, but also a 3 day folk festival. The participating teams are able to show off their skills to a large audience as well as the bbq enthusiasts. On Saturday and Sunday they can prepare their dish ‘cooking from the homeland’ and sell it to the visitors. The offered dish has to be included in the registration. The dishes on offer are presented to the visitors on a board.

The fee for participating in the World Championships is 600 Euro including VAT.
